Big Data-Know and How

Twitter, Facebook, world data centre, Amazon and Google all these social networking or ecommerce site has huge footprint in terms of number of users, transactions they perform and data they crunch day in day out. These numbers are so big that it range from
terabyte to petabytes.

  1. Data Explosion
  2. Monetization
  3. Social Media
  4. Data mobilization
  5. Technology Advancement
Big Data -
high amount of data to be processed, produced and available with respect to diversity of source inside and outside.

Areas require Big Data
  • Image processing
  • Video processing
  • Seisemic processing
  • sensor data analysis
  • network analysis
  • enterprise monitoring
  • Enterprise data warehouse
  • Low latency Non Relationship Database
  • Key value - Amazon dynomite
  • Column oriented- cassandra hbase,Riask
  • Document databases- Couch db/Mongodb

Ayan Ryand -atlas Shrugged

I really like the phrase and opening of this book.

WHO MOVES THE WORLD?

Who is John Gait? When he says that he will stop the motor of the world, is he

a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he have to fight his battles not against his

enemies but against those who need him most? Why does he fight his hardest

battle against the woman he loves?

You will know the answer to these questions when you discover the reason

behind the baffling events that play havoc with the lives of the amazing men

and women in this book. You will discover why a productive genius becomes a

worthless playboy . . . why a great steel industrialist is working for his own

destruction . . . why a composer gives up his career on the night of his triumph

. . . why a beautiful woman who runs a transcontinental railroad falls in love

with the man she has sworn to kill.

Atlas Shrugged, a modern classic and a perennial Ayn Rand bestseller,

offers the reader the spectacle of human greatness, depicted with all the

poetry and power of one of the twentieth century’s leading artists.

Level 1 Reading Technique

Decoding and comprehension strategies

Ollie Owl- Look at the pictures

  • Look at the pictures to guess what a word might be?
  • Do you already know any sounds in the words?
  • Say the first few sounds in the word out loud. Is there a picture of something that starts with the sounds?
  • Eg. Camera – Ca    Me   Ra..

Chunky Monkey : Chunk the word

  • Look for a chunk that you know (-ing, -and , art, tion, sion, ture, ght, ly, ter, ful, etc)
  • Look for a word part beer be-er something like this, break in two alphabet or three, water  wa + ter E.g Animal = Ani + mal
  • Example: The chunky monkey helped me break up the word into 3 small parts, then I knew it was yes-ter-day.”
  • Like Albertine  =Al +ber+ tine
  • Like Night= Ni +ght, Right =Ri +ght, Sight= Si+ght

Sammy Snake: S-t-r-e-t-c-h it out

  • Stretch out each sound in the word.
  • Can you see any blends in the word you know? E.g rather than t-h-i-s do th-is
  • Example: I used Sammy the snake to sound out the word and I knew it in the picture,
  • Summarise & Synthesize

Frankie Fish: Get your lips ready

  • Get your lips and tongue ready to say the sound.
  • Sound out the first letter and blend in the word.
  • Put all sounds together to figure out the word.
  • Example Frankie Fish helped me to know the word started with ‘ch’ so I knew it was chocolate

1.       B EE P= B + E+ P

2.       SLEEP= SL +E +P

1.       LOOK= L +Oie+ K

2.       TOOK= T+ Oie +K

3.       CATCH= CA + TCH

Comprehension- Reading for meaning

Repair Bear- Monitor and Fix up

Fergus Frog: Re-Read

Activate and Connect

Con the connector

Val the visualiser

Ask Questions-

Queenie the questioner

Predicting

Private eye the Predictor

Infer Meaning

Iggy the Inference Iguana

  • Draw conclusions

Jabber the re-teller Technique :

After reading a text or book, discuss what happened at the beginning, middle and end.

  • Ask questions related to the story-WHO, WHAT, WHEN, HOW,WHERE,WHY questions are good starting points.
  • Ask the child to retell the story in their own words.

Determine the Importance:

Digger the Determining Dog-

Dig for and determine the MOST important ideas.

  • Dig for information that tells you the author’s message.
  • Dig and determine the facts
  • Recording the main ideas and supporting details.
  • Ask questions like: What is important here? What matters most?

E.g

Water is life

Stealing is bad.

Frilly Features

Discovering the Features of a text

  • Is the book fiction or nonfiction? How do you know?
  • Is there a content page?
  • Whay are there captions on pictures?
  • Look for various features in the textE.g Speech Bubbles, captions, diagrams , contents, glossary etc.

Good Reading For Kids Level 1

Herbert The Brave dog.
By Robyn Belton
Highlights-
French pass - Nightmare for Seafarers

Herbert was a small dog who lived in Nelson by the sea.
Everybody liked him, but the person who loved him most was Tim. One day, Tim and Herbert went down to the Jetty. Tim's
father was on board a boat with two friends.
They were going to a cottage in the Marlborough Sounds. With a bound, Herbert leapt on board with them.
Tim wished he could go too, but he was travelling by road with his mother.
His dad said, " The waters in French Pass are treacherous and there are deadly whirlpools. It is no place for a child."
"Well, look after Herbert , Dad!" called Tim.
At first, the sea was calm and the boat sped along the coastline. Dolphins appeared, tumbling and turning, leaping and
diving. Herbert was so excited that he ran from one side of the boat to the other, wagging his tail and barking.
But the fine weather didn't last. Without warning, a strong wind swept down the hills, whipping up the waves. The boat began
to pitch and toss. The dolphins disappeared.
Dark cloud hid the sun. Rain and sea beat against the boat. All sign of land disappeared.
The boat had to be through the pass before the turn of the tide. Now the men had only their compass to guide them.
Nobody notices what happened to Herbert.
Nobody saw him lose his balance and fall into the sea.
He tried to bark, but nobody heard him. Herbert paddled after the boats, but it was already far away. The waves were like
mountains. He struggled up one side, and down the other, with the wind in his face.
A night fell, the wind dropped. Herbert was exhausted , but he was still swimming.
When the boat was safely through French pass, the men looked at each other. "Where's Herbert?"" Herbert!" shouted Tim's
dad. Where are you?
They searched the boat from stem to stern. He fallen overboard! we have to go back ! Tim's dad said.
We can't go back! the tide's turned, said one of the men.
We'd never get through the pass!"
He won't survive in that sea, " said the other.
With heavy hearts, they carried on.
It was late when they reached the jetty by the cottage. Tim, his mother and their friends were anxiously waiting. The
dreadful news had to be told. Tim cried and cried. He's alive. We must go back.
His dad tried to explain about the tides. And its dark, Tim . But Tim wouldn't give up . He's alive! I know it!"
Dad said, "we'll ask the fisherman who lives at the pass to help us. He knows the area like the back of his hand. Go to
sleep now Tim. But the Tim could not sleep.
Next morning, at first light, Tim and his dad set off in the boat with the fisherman. The storm was over. The sea was cold
and empty. Tim searched with tears in his eyes. He said to his dad, This will be the worst or the best day of my life.
All morning they searched that empty sea, peering and calling. There was no sign of Herbert."It's no good," said the
fisherman. We might as well turn back." No cried Tim. Please keep looking. One more time they took the boat to the outer
sounds. The fisher strained his eyes. What's that, he said reaching for his binoculars.
There's your dog, mate! the fisherman said. In a circle of ripples, Tim could see a little black nose. HERBERT He shouted.
They brought the boat over to Herbert. I knew you were alive said Tim I just knew it. The fisherman scooped Herbert out of
the water. Herbert lay on the deck without a sound. Tim gently wrapped him in a blanket and held him tight.
All the way home, Tim cradled Herbert in his arms. I knew it. Thirty hours in the water said dad. A miracle said the
fisherman. Tim smiled. This is the best day of my life.

An Hour of code And Life runs on code

An automation, engineering and technology affinity had made the world better place to live. The era is already on its verge to sway the ignorance of information technology to know-how to how-do. Well I can see lot of efforts has been made to spread awareness and thought process to encourage coding and technology. Now its time of Cloud, mobility and APIs.

I would say encourage our younger generations to opt, adopt and exonerate the resources we have in hand. We got social media, social engineering, knowledge repository platform and we came closer to information day in day out. Its time to innovate and explore, realize the horizon to reality.
